Urdu Literature of Haryana

  • Development of Urdu language took place after the arrival of Muslims in the middle ages. Initially, it developed in places like North India, mainly Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, etc. But soon it was spread all over India.
  • Urdu language and literature have been continuously developing in the state of Haryana.
  • The most important contribution in enriching Urdu literature in Haryana was the famous Urdu poet "Maulana Hali" and his family members like - Khwaja Ahmad Abbas, Salika Abid Hussain Begum, Mumtaz Mirza, Zahida Zaidi, etc.
  • Some famous litterateurs of Haryana are discussed below:

    Khwaja Ahmad 'Abbas'

  • Khwaja Ahmad 'Abbas' of Panipat has the popularity of Urdu literature both at home and abroad. He was also honored with the President's Award.
  • Major compositions of Khwaja Ahmad 'Abbas' are Ababil, Ek Ladki, Musafir ki Diary, Mein Kaun Hoon, Paon Mein Phool and so on.
  • Altaf Hussain Hali

  • He was born in 1837 in Panipat. His important creations are Hayat - e - Saadi, Safarnama, Najm - e - Hali, Makatib - e - Hali, Makalat - e-Hali, Yadgar - e - Galib, Hayat - e - Javed, etc.
  • In 1904, the British Government conferred him the title 'Shamsul Ulema.
  • Naubhar Sabir

  • The famous Urdu litterateur, Naubhar Sabir of Tohana, was honoured by the Haryana Government in the year 1970 - 71.
  • His major compositions are Rajkimari, ;alita, Payam - e - Bedari, Krishna - Darshan, Karvaan Khayalo Ke, Krishna - Darshan, Karvaan Khayalo Kr Lahu Tarang and so on.
